Diamine oxidase (DAO) is an enzyme naturally present in the intestine, whose function is to break down histamine ingested via our food.
DAO deficiency, one of the most widespread enzyme-related metabolic disorders in the world, causes an excessive accumulation of dietary histamine in our bodies, which can lead to histamine intolerance.
Since histamine is not metabolised correctly, it is absorbed by the intestinal mucosa, which can trigger symptoms such as headaches, skin redness, digestive problems, runny nose, etc.

More specifically, this DAO supplement contains a trio of ingredients:
- microencapsulated adiDAO Veg® rich in DAO: this pea germ powder (Pisum sativum) is standardised in DAO. The DAO is microencapsulated to resist gastric acidity so that it reaches the intestine in optimum quantity and condition. Numerous clinical trials and other studies carried out on DAO-deficient individuals suggest that supplementation can reduce the number of headache episodes in migraine sufferers, reduce fatigue, stiffness and mood disorders in people suffering from increased sensitivity of the nervous system, reduce neuroinflammation in people suffering from attention deficit disorder, and alleviate various digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory and skin disorders (1-4);

It also protects ingested DAO and reinforces its action by reducing the release of histamine and promoting its breakdown by other pathways. Histamine intolerance is difficult to diagnose directly.
Diagnosis is therefore often based on ruling out other possible causes, with the help of a healthcare professional.
Two methods can help identify this disorder:
- measuring the level of diamine oxidase in the blood to identify any deficiency;
- carrying out a food avoidance and reintroduction test, i.e. observing whether symptoms change with the adoption of a low-histamine diet for 2 to 4 weeks (by eliminating certain foods such as fermented products like yoghurt or sauerkraut, fish and seafood, processed meats, certain fruits and vegetables including tomatoes, aubergines and strawberries, chocolate, alcohol, etc.).
There are very few food sources of diamine oxidase:
- kidneys, liver and certain other offal from pork, beef and veal;
- pea sprouts (Pisum sativum).
However, in the absence of protection, the DAO contained in food is unfortunately destroyed by cooking or gastric acidity.
If you want to increase your DAO levels, you can:
- promote certain nutrients essential for its production (vitamin B6, vitamin C, copper, zinc, etc.);
- avoid its inhibitors (such as alcohol, green tea, mate, certain anti-inflammatory or antidepressant drugs, etc.);
- take care of your intestinal health, as digestive problems can weaken your production (opt for a non-inflammatory diet, for example);
- take a DAO supplement like the product presented here.
As well as taking this product, we advise you to look at the effects of glutathione. This endogenous antioxidant naturally plays a major role in the breakdown and detoxification of histamine. It can be found in supplement form (such as Perlingual Glutathione or S-Acetyl Glutathione).
Rather than taking glutathione directly, you can also opt for N-acetylcysteine (NAC), one of the most widely used and studied glutathione precursors (N-Acetyl Cysteine).

Very happy with this new product. I find it to be very effective in reducing histamine issues I often forget to take it before a meal but, for me, it still has some effect if I take it directly after a meal. It’s the first histamine control capsule that I’ve found without any fillers or bulking agents. Highly recommend.
